A simple check
of the lower lawn after the big rains turns into an, "Oh, crap!"
Jeannie and I had seeded this slope painstakingly by hand to prevent
erosion. But to no avail.
So after waiting
a couple of days for a break in the weather, we begin to dig. But
with every shovel full of goo, the rest oozes slowly down the slope.
Soon we realize that the entire contents of this slump must be removed
before we can do a repair.
The
view from our deck while we slave away in the muck. A week earlier,
this field was completely dry.
Andy
contemplates this gift from the Gooo Gods. Notice the giant dinosaur
turd behind him on the 4 by 9 sheets of plywood.
We
put one panel in place then back filled it but soon found that the
weight of the mud just pushed the bottom of the panel out and into
the lawn. So we had to dig it out again then anchor each panel with
stakes that went down about 2 feet. Check out the pile of liquid dinosaur
excrement behind Andy.
After
2 days of work we had built a wall and thrown the goey, muddy contents
back behind it.
Notice
all the braces. Even with this many braces, the blue boards are buldging
like crazy from the weight. We've got our fingers crossed that this
whole section doesn't collapse again and bring more of the hillside
down onto the lawn.
