The Flats
with the tide coming in. Here it is about half way to high tide.
At low tide The Flats are completely exposed. Mom and Dad's house
is in the distance, right above the Windglider windsurfer.

 |
When
the tide comes in it brings in the rich ocean water. As a result,
all the creatures come out when the tide starts coming in. Shrimp,
baby flounder, minnows, striped bass and of course tons of hermit
crabs.

With
these guys it's always war. Here's a couple of hermit crab warriors
trying to rip each other's arms off.

Sydney
likes to break up the battles and keep the peace. Here she disciplines
a naughty hermit crab.

Looking
from The Flats towards Sandy Beach. The ocean is just on the other
side of the dune grass. Sandy Beach can be completely packed with
people yet just a few hundred yards away, The Flats will have not
a soul on them. Go figure.

Jeannie
arrives in one of the kayaks. We've got about every kind of water
toy available here in Little Harbor. Stuff we've collected over
the years.
|
 |
A
few hundred yards from the Flats is The Run where the tide comes
in and goes out through a narrow passage. This is a great place
to play. Here Sydney watches the current as we sit in an eddy.
|
 |
When
the tide comes in at full bore (not today) there is a nice boiler
that you can surf a kayak in. It used to be ok to jump from the
bridge but now the cops frown on it.

 |
Sydney
heads back on the Windglider. A nice steady sea breeze comes up
almost every day when there isn't weather systems moving through.
This makes for really nice sailing.

 |
Sailing
back and forth across Little Harbor on the way back to the dock.
Is this Never Never Land or what!?
|
 |
Jeannie
videos as Sydney sails past. Just behind Sydney you can see the
low area at Sandy Beach. On the other side of the houses is the
ocean.
|
 |
What
is that post sticking up out of the water? It's Sydney and Jeannie
standing on Little Bingo, a dome of granite sitting out in the middle
of Little Harbor.
