Sydney and Riding

Here are some photos we took while Sydney was riding. First she decides who she is going to ride.

She then goes to the paddock and picks out a horse. Hopefully, no one has taken the one she wants already. It takes a while for her to catch the horse sometimes.

Finally, Sydney is able to lead Checkers back to the gate and out to where she can clean him up and get him ready for a ride.

After getting him all tied up to the hitching post, she brushes Checkers down, cleans the hooves, straightens the main and removes any dirt or burrs.

The horses really love this part, it feels good to be groomed. Sometimes they even close their eyes and fall asleep.

Then Sydeny decides which tack she needs to put on Checkers. She wants to make sure she uses the right tack that will fit.

She asks Michelle to help her out if she has any questions. Sometimes it's hard to get the bridle and bit on. But eventually she figures it out. If she needs any muscle, Michelle is always there to help.

Finally Sydney is ready to take Checkers for a ride. She makes sure everything is nice and snug and fitting properly. Then she goes and finds some boots that fit right inside the trailer.

She also looks for a helmet that will fit and keep her head protected in case she is thrown and lands on her noggin.

Sydney talking to Checkers

When Sydney is all set, she talks to Checkers for a while, makes sure everything is ok with him, then off they go for a ride.

Sydney says, "I love horses. I'm going to be riding for the rest of my life."

"My goal is to have a spread of land in Montana when I grow up and I'm going to have a lot of horses there."
